Gargoyles- the next “It” creature, September 20, 2016

Just a quick note to share something I found to be pretty darned cool. We have a new 5 Star review over at Amazon from a wonderful 51ZaYzr-3DL._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_reader. As you know, book 2, Phantom Limb Itch, is nearly complete. I know this one has been a long time coming. It is a long book, which, I’ve heard, is common for the second book in any series. If you’ve read SCALES, your reviews are very appreciated. Thanks again. (=

And so, I’m off to the writing cave.

A little about Phantom Limb Itch…

I just want to clear up a little something about Phantom Limb Itch, which is book two in my gargoyle series. Most feel Scales (book one) is YA, and understandably so. That’s fine for book one. Book two, is not YA. It is adult urban fantasy. It is vary dark and there are elements of horror throughout, along with other adult themes. The biggest reason for this change is because Tessa, herself, is growing up. In book one she was age eighteen and freshly emancipated from being raised by a “gaggle” of nuns. In Phantom she’s been forced to ditch any remaining adolescence. We can’t expect our dear girl to stay young. Tessa isn’t a child any longer and she doesn’t act like one in book two.

An Excerpt from SCALES: Book 1 in the Fate and Fire Trilogy

Change is Fate’s little sister. Fate and I shared a long, hateful history, where Change and I were virtual strangers. Change can make you or break you, just like Fate. I’ve let them do both. The trick is to embrace what they bring.

I was nineteen the first time I killed another person. Blood dripped from my claws, and I
just stared as he went. I stood over him, watching his paling face while sight left his eyes, breath left his lungs and his soul went straight to hell.

There’d been a time when I didn’t even like to watch such scenes play out in a movie. Change played time like a fiddle while Fate watched me dance.

I hated to love my new life. Most nights I raged inside. Some nights I remembered the girl I was in another lifetime—a pastel-tinted, musical, lonely life in the sunshine. Those times were a few short months ago that felt like decades on the day. Sometimes I wondered if my new way of life was also my own, personal brand of mourning for the girl I used to be. . . .

And then I was set free…

So, about reviews… they’re part of what make a writing career tick. If you’ve purchased a book, the best thing you can to to boost the writer’s career is to go back to where you bought the book and post a quick review. Reviews boost a book’s rankings, which helps the authors to keep selling their work. 😉

A Sneak Peek at the New Cover! Book One from the Fate and Fire Trilogy, SCALES! Coming Soon!

A while back, Scales was picked up by a new publisher. This is a thrilling time for me because in just a couple short weeks, like fourteen whoppin’ days, Strigidae Publishing will release the reprint of Scales. I’ll have more on that soon, including a link to buy online.

Not only has my debut novel found a new home, the book has a new image that I find brilliantly relevant. My publisher has a talented artist who got it did a great job. Nothing beats the feeling of knowing your project has a great cover!

I’ve decided on a name for the three book series– The Fate and Fire Trilogy. I believe this is extremely fitting for Tessa! So, the order of the series will go Scales, Phantom Limb Itch, and last but far from least, Soul Count. I’m ecstatic about this!

One last update before I leave you to admire the new wrap for the book– Phantom Limb Itch is coming right along. Strigidae is ready and waiting for me to finish and send it over. We’re talking cover art already. I’m sorry for the delay with completion with the second book, but I hope to have it wrapped up soon!

Thanks for reading, and please share with your friends, and anyone you know who loves urban fantasy!

Snowflakes and Vanilla Tea

I never know what to title my blog posts and these are two things I’ve go goin’ on so there it is. (: Today’s been great and to top it off I get to spend the rest of the night writing.

My thoughts on NaNoWriMo… are just like they were before I’d ever tried it. This was my first year “competing” and I used my competitive nature to increase productivity. Worked like a charm on St. Patty’s Day. To do it right, you start with a clean slate, an idea for a novel and an outline if that’s how you roll. I did my version of an outline for book 3 in Tessa’s Story, SOUL COUNT, and jumped in with several buddies. I’m glad I did and I’ll do it again because I unwittingly taught myself a lesson about writing time. It’s a challenge to find time to write when the mundane job takes so much time, as well as running a household, family time, and being good support my teenaged daughter who’s thrown her heart into being an athlete. I’ve thrown my heart in along with her. NaNo, coupled with a deep-seated loathing for losing, helped me find more time for writing in my schedule when I thought there wasn’t enough. I still want to be a career author. This is the way I’ll get there.

SCALES continues to get great reviews. Whew! And what a blessing! I have a few awesome beta readers ready and waiting for PHANTOM LIMB ITCH. When November’s over, I’ll put SOUL COUNT aside and finish PHANTOM. I’m a little behind, but book 2 turned out to be a monster. Here’s a blurb for ya:

SCALES is an Urban Fantasy novel about a young Celtic goddess who was the first living gargoyle. Badassery, right? She’s also a college student from Austin. 😉 Check it out to see how it all began! Here’s SCALES on Amazon. $5.99 for the eread, What a deal. (:

So, I’m off to the writing cave for the night. I’ve got a little over 10K to go until I finish the challenge. That was a fast month!
